I have recently used up some more makeup and skincare products and I thought it was time for another empties post. I have to admit, I have used up a lot more than what I have here, but I still haven’t gotten into the habit of keeping the packaging of empty products for a review! I did a post like this back in July featuring a mix of skincare, haircare, makeup and perfumes, so if you haven’t seen that, you can find it here.
Estée Lauder Double Wear Foundation – This is one of my favourite foundations and one that is an absolute saviour when I’m having a bad skin day. It gives flawless full coverage with semi-matte finish and lasts all day. It is great for oily skin and claims to have 15-hour staying power. I haven’t worn it for that long, but I know that it still looks amazing after 8-10 hours. It has SPF 10 and a great range of shades, so whatever your skin tone, you should be able to find your perfect match. The only downside to me is the lack of a pump, which would make the application easier, but you can buy one separately. If you have combination or oily skin and struggle to keep your foundation in place during the day, I would highly recommend this one.
YSL Luxurious Mascara For False Lash Effect – I really wanted to love this mascara. There is so much hype about YSL mascaras and this is one of their bestsellers, so I had very high hopes for it. It did the job for a few weeks and I was actually impressed with the volume and length it was giving my lashes, but after the third week it became so thick and dry that it was impossible to use any more. I would have expected a high end mascara like this one to last a lot longer than that! I don’t know if there was something wrong with mine, as so many people love it and I believe it has been re-formulated recently, so I might give it another go at some point in the future. One thing that is really great about it is that it comes in six different colours, which is rare for mascaras.
Clarins Instant Light Natural Lip Perfector – Absolutely love this product. It is the perfect combination between a lip gloss and a lip balm. It adds beautiful shine and a hint of colour, but feels super soft and comfortable on the lips. I don’t want to write too much about it, as it was featured it in my Most Used Lip Products and Top 5 Summer Beauty Essentials posts and I know I have talked a lot about it already, but that’s just how much I love it!
Nuxe Hand and Nail Cream – This is a lovely hand cream that contains honey, precious oils and vitamin E. The formula is very light and non-greasy and easily absorbed. It has a beautiful floral scent which I found quite strong for a hand cream, but I personally love everything scented, so I really enjoyed using it. I kept it at my desk and applied it a few times every day and my hands were always soft and nourished. Nuxe do amazing gift sets and offers, so keep an eye out and you can get really great value for your money.
Clarins Ultra-Matte Rebalancing Lotion – I bought this last summer when my skin was feeling more on the oily side and I was looking for a balancing moisturiser. I wouldn’t say that my skin was looking completely matte after applying this, but it managed to take away some of the shine, which I loved over the summer months. It is a very light moisturiser with fluid texture that sinks in very quickly and if you have quite oily skin, this might be great for you, but my skin is combination and can get dehydrated, so I had to alternate between this and another moisturiser to keep it well hydrated.
Nuxe Anti-Fatigue Moisturising Eye Cream – This anti-aging, anti-puffiness eye cream claims to hydrate, revive and reduce the appearance of bags and dark circles. I’m not convinced about the last two, but I bought it because I wanted something very gentle, moisturising and refreshing that would work well under concealer and I really liked it for those reasons. The scent of this eye cream is amazing, similarly to the Nuxe hand cream, it is quite strong, so if you have sensitive eyes, make sure you try a sample first before buying the full size product.
Bobbi Brown Smokey Eye Mascara – I got this mascara as part of a gift set and I didn’t expect to like it so much. It gives length and volume without any clumping or flaking, separates the lashes really well and makes them look longer and fuller in a very natural way. The brush is smaller than the YSL mascara which makes it easier to use on your bottom lashes and it doesn’t get a lot of excess product, so you are less likely to make a mess when applying it. It lasted me for several months and I used it pretty much every day, so I was very happy with it!
Estée Lauder Double Wear Light – This is another favourite of mine! It is essentially a lighter version of the Double Wear foundation. It also has SPF 10 and the same staying power, but the coverage is a lot more sheer, looks very natural and feels more comfortable and light-weight on the skin than Double Wear. I got this just before I went on holiday last year and I tested it through heat and humidity and I was really impressed with it. The only thing I don’t like so much about it is the limited range of shades. There isn’t one that matches my skin tone exactly, so I have to mix two shades, which is not ideal.
Clarins True Radiance Foundation – This is the only product here that I couldn’t finish. I love the idea behind it, but unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I could see that my skin was looking more radiant and glowing after applying this, but half way through the day it was completely sliding off my face, which I haven’t experienced with any other foundation. I tried using different moisturisers and primers underneath, but I didn’t see much of a difference. The formula is light and moisturising and would work well for someone with dry skin.
I hope you found this post useful and let me know in the comments below if you have questions about any of these products!
