Today’s post is all about my favourite beauty products from the month of January. I have been trying out some new makeup and skincare bits over the past few weeks and I have also rediscovered an old favourite of mine.
Clarins Joli Rouge Lipstick – If you are still on the hunt for the perfect red lipstick, you have to try Joli Rouge in 743 Cherry Red. This is a classic, universal red shade which gives a rich, intense colour and a lovely shine to the lips. But what I love the most about this lipstick is the ultra-moisturising formula. It is so smooth and creamy that it almost feels like a lip balm and you don’t need to worry about your lips getting dry or uncomfortable throughout the day. I wore this lipstick in a recent outfit post that you can see here.
Nars Radiant Creamy Concealer – I was hesitant to try this concealer for a long time, because I was worried that it is one of those overhyped products that will disappoint me, but it is actually a really good concealer and I’m really glad I finally got it. The shade that I have is Custard which seems to be one of the most popular shades and it matches my skin tone very well, so I have been using it to cover any spots and redness on my face. It has medium to high coverage and lasts all day on my face without the need to touch up, so I’ll definitely keep using it and I would love to try a lighter shade to see how it works under the eyes.
Urban Decay Naked Smoky Eyeshadow Palette – I have had this in my makeup stash for a long time but I wasn’t using it enough until this month. If you have ever tried any of the UD Naked palettes, you will know how good they are. The colours are very beautiful and pigmented and unlike other eyeshadow palettes the brushes that come with these ones are also good quality and I use them all the time. The Smoky palette has to be my favourite out of the whole range, because every single shade is amazing. I use the lighter colours for a subtle smoky eye during the day and the darker ones for a more dramatic look in the evening. There is a great range of matte and shimmer shades which are all very neutral and wearable.
Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat Lip Liner – On an everyday basis I tend to go for nude lips and my favourite lip liner at the moment is the Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk. I’m very picky when it comes to buying a lip liner and if it’s not the right one, I would rather skip that step completely. It has to be a very soft formula that matches the colour of my lips and doesn’t smudge and this one is all of the above. Pillow Talk is the best natural, barely-there shade I have found and it’s perfect if you want to give shape and fullness to your lips without overdoing them. If you are struggling to find a good lip liner, definitely try this one!
Bobbi Brown Lip Colour – This lipstick in Sandwash Pink and the CT lip liner has been my favourite lip combo throughout the month of January. This is a semi-matte lipstick which is very creamy, pigmented and long-lasting. I rarely wear matte or semi-matte formulas, as they tend to dry out my lips, but this one doesn’t do that at all. It’s very comfortable to wear and stays in place for hours. It comes in more than 30 shades with at least 10 different nudes, so it’s hard not to fall in love with the whole collection.
Diorshow Iconic Overcurl Mascara – I’m a huge fan of Dior mascaras and this is another great one. I love the curved brush which makes the application really easy and gives a lot of length and volume. It separates and lifts the lashes and the staying power is excellent. I have been wearing it all day long and I haven’t had any problems with smudging which I do with a lot of other mascaras after several hours.
Diorskin Forever Foundation – I wasn’t sure if I should include this, as I have only had it for about a week, but I’m really impressed with it and it’s the only foundation that I’m using at the moment. It has buildable medium to full coverage, a semi-matte finish and SPF 35. I apply it using my blending sponge for a natural finish and I love how it minimises the look of pores, so I can easily skip the primer with this foundation. I don’t do any touch ups during the day and even after eight hours it still looks great. It claims to stay on for up to 16 hours, but I never wear makeup for so long, so I can’t confirm that.
Rodial Super Acids Cleansing Pads – These pads contain salicylic acid and amino acids which are great for deep cleansing and gentle exfoliation of the skin. Salicylic acid in small quantities has always worked well for me, especially for getting rid of blemishes. I use one pad every evening after removing my makeup and washing my face and it leaves my skin very soft and clean without drying it out. I had a few breakouts in the beginning of the month, but as soon as I started using these cleansing pads, things have significantly calmed down. They are gentle enough to be used twice daily if needed, but if you don’t have experience with acid-containing products, you might want to start with only one pad a day or every other day to build up your skin’s tolerance.
There are a few other skincare products that I’ve been using all the time during the month of January and deserve a mention, but I already talked about them in my Winter Skin Saviours post, so if you haven’t seen that, go check it out, because these are some seriously amazing products and I can’t recommend them enough!
