To me summer beauty is about fresh radiant complexion, sun-kissed glow and a flash of colour. I feel like now is the perfect time to forget about full-coverage foundations and embrace the less-is-more approach to make-up. Today I wanted to share with you my top five beauty essentials which I will be reaching for every day this summer.
In the summertime I try to keep my skin looking as natural as possible, so I have decided to swap my normal foundation for the Dior Backstage Pro Fix-It concealer. This is a great 2-in-1 primer and concealer and I use it on my face to even out my skin tone, under my eyes to conceal dark circles and on my eyelids as an eye shadow base. The primer does a really good job at reducing the look of pores and smoothing out the surface of the skin and it helps the concealer stay in place. You can use your fingers to apply it, but my favourite method is with the beauty blender and it just melts into the skin.
To achieve dewy, healthy-looking complexion, I skip the usual setting powder and instead I use the Urban Decay Naked Flushed palette. It has three products in it – a bronzer, blush and highlighter which complement each other so beautifully. I use a big bronzing brush to apply the bronzer to those areas where the sun would naturally hit the face – on top of the cheekbones, across the forehead, down along the jawline and across the bridge of the nose, and then I blend it into the neck. I also like to use a smaller brush to dust a little bit of bronzer on my eyelids. Then I follow with the blush and a little bit of the highlighter. This is a great palette to have in your make-up bag and I featured it in my Travel Beauty Heroes.
Another summer essential is my Clarins Instant Light Lip Perfector in shade 05 Candy Shimmer. This has been a staple in my make-up bag over the past few months and it’s one of the best tinted lip balms I have ever tried. It is quite sheer on the lips with a beautiful glossy finish, very long-lasting and nourishing at the same time. It smells like vanilla, which I personally love, and it’s very easy to apply. You don’t even need a mirror for it, so it’s a great lip product to have on the go.
When it comes to eye make-up in the summer I like a bit of shimmer and creamy formulas are my favourite, so I’m so glad I discovered the Lancôme Ombre Hypnôse cream eyeshadow stick. It comes in eight different colours and I have it in 03 Taupe Quarts, which is perfect for both day and night. It is super pigmented and long-wearing and a very quick and easy way to add a pop of colour to your eyes. I sometimes use my fingertips to smudge it out and create an effortless smokey eye.
Lastly, I had to include my favourite summer fragrance in my top 5 beauty essentials for this season, as it is something that I’m currently wearing every single day. I’m on my second bottle of the Lanvin Eclat d’Arpège and it is one of my all-time favourite perfumes. It is a very fresh, delicate fruity-floral scent. Some of the notes in it are lilac, peach blossom, red peony, white cedar and sweet musk. It is great for the summer season, as it is light and not-in-your-face, and I have been getting so many compliments when wearing this perfume, so I would highly recommend it!
