an you believe it was just a week ago when we had snow and sub-zero temperatures here in the UK?! I’m so happy the weather seems to be back to normal for this time of year and yes, spring is just around the corner! I’m excited to finally take some heavy winter items out of my wardrobe and add in a few more spring-appropriate ones. I’m still going to be wearing coats and boots for at least a few more weeks while the weather is still cool, but I’m slowly starting to introduce some lighter fabrics and colours to my outfits. If you’re struggling to dress for that changeable early spring weather, I have a few tips to help you transition your wardrobe.
Try a bright colour
You don’t need to dress head to toe in bright colours. Pick a colour that you love (I’m clearly loving red!), something that is different from what you wear in the winter months, and add a few pieces in that colour to your wardrobe. You can wear an all-black outfit and throw a bright coat over the top and it instantly looks so fresh and chic. If a coat is a bit too much, you can start with adding a bright accessory like a scarf or a pair of boots and keep the rest of the outfit neutral. How pretty are these & Other Stories boots btw?
Go for lighter fabrics
It’s still too chilly to ditch your knitwear completely, but instead of your wool and cashmere winter jumpers try some fine knit options, like silk/cotton mix. It’s soft, comfortable and great for layering. If you’re not sure what jacket to wear in that in-between weather, when it’s too warm for a heavy coat, but too cold for a trench or a leather jacket, try a tailored coat in a more light-weight fabric. This AllSaints one is the perfect transitional coat, in terms of both fabric and colour.
Dig out your white jeans
There’s no need to wait until late spring or summer to wear your white jeans. I did a post on how to wear white jeans in winter and I styled mine with a black knitted top, a camel coat and black ankle boots (photos here). You can totally wear that outfit in early spring and as the weather starts warming up, swap the wool coat for a trench and the boots for some flats or espadrilles and you have the perfect spring outfit!
Are you looking forward to spring?
