Building My Autumn Capsule Wardrobe

I’ve always wanted to have a capsule wardrobe that consists of 15-20 key basic pieces including accessories. These would be only high-quality essentials that don’t go out of style and I can wear over and over again. Then every season I can throw in a few trend pieces to update my wardrobe keeping it to no more than 30 pieces in total. This is how I see a capsule wardrobe, but I have never been able to implement it for different reasons (too much shopping, buying cheaper items that don’t last or items that don’t go with the rest of my wardrobe). I don’t actually enjoy shopping that much anymore and I don’t have time to be browsing and buying something new every week, so I’ve decided to free my wardrobe of the unnecessary clutter and embrace the capsule wardrobe (or at least give it a try!).

If you’re considering doing the same, but haven’t made up your mind yet, just think about how much easier it would be to choose an outfit in the morning and how much money you can save yourself in the long-run. The key is to buy essential pieces and to make sure they are high-quality, but this doesn’t necessarily mean high-end! There are a lot of premium brands like Reiss, AllSaints, Whistles and Cos, and high-street brands like H&M, Uniqlo, Topshop and Mango, to name a few, that have some great basics made of quality materials like silk, wool, cashmere, leather and suede. This ties in with my previous post about my not-so-basic basics where I talked about my most worn wardrobe staples, so if you haven’t seen it yet, here is a link.

For this post, I’ve put together 17 pieces, most of which are the same or very similar to what I already have in my wardrobe, plus a few that I have on my wish list, to show you what my autumn capsule wardrobe should look like once it’s been built and to give you a little bit of inspiration if you want to join me in this experiment. I hope you find this post helpful and keep your eyes peeled for up-coming posts on my capsule wardrobe.
